They Will Soar On Wings Like Eagles
August 2023
In Isaiah 40:31 we read, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint” (NLT). Of all the birds in the world, eagles are the most majestic, powerful, and beautiful. Eagles are admired the world over as living symbols of power, freedom and transcendence. In fact, the bald eagle is our national bird and the symbol of the United States.

Eagles have unusual eyes. They are very large in proportion to their heads and have extremely large pupils. Eagles’ eyes have a million light-sensitive cells per square mm of retina, five times more than a human’s 200,000. In fact, the eagle’s vision is among the sharpest of any animal, and studies suggest that some eagles can spot an animal the size of a rabbit up to two miles away!

Not only do they have great vision, but they have great power and soar high above the earth. Their wingspan is huge, and if you are fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of one of them flying overhead, it will stop you in your tracks. You will have to pause to admire these creatures God so wonderfully created.

As believers, we can learn many lessons from eagles. One such lesson is that they soar high above the earth. They don’t live on the earth they live above it. They are free from the problems, difficulties, hindrances, and limitations of the earth below. As God’s children, He wants to renew our strength like the eagle’s, and He wants for us to soar high above the cares, worries and problems of this world while enjoying the quietness of His presence. Let us then rise above, and soar higher with Christ every day, being free in Him.

Even our Lord in Exodus 19:4 told the Israelites, “You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.” Oh, that the Lord would give us the keen eyesight of an eagle to see what He sees and how He sees in this world. May we see Him in every circumstance of our lives and thank Him for all that He does for us. Only then can we soar with wings like eagles.
