Stand Firm In The Lord
August 2019
When trials and difficulties surround us on every side, it is so important to remember to stand firm in the Lord. We must continue to shine the light of Christ like a lighthouse. Storms rage and waves crash all around us, but still we stand firm in the Lord. The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 16:13, “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” It is no time to retreat, no time to give up, and no time to quit. The Lord is with us to the end. The Lord is our rock and refuge; we must stand firm in Him and in the truth of His word. G.K. Chesterton once said, “There are an infinity of angles at which one falls, only one at which one stands.”

The devil wants us to doubt, stumble, and fall but the Lord is with us and desires us to stand firm. The hymn writer Mosie Lister wrote, “In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face, while the storms howl above me, and there’s no hiding place. ’Mid the crash of the thunder, precious Lord hear my cry, “Keep me safe ’til the storm passes by.” The Lord doesn’t promise to save us from the storms but to take us through them. He is our Captain, and we are safe in His ship. One day we will look back on our lives and see how the Lord has been with us and brought us through so many things.

William M. Batten, the late American businessman and chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, once said, “When I hear my friends say they hope their children don’t have to experience the hardships they went through, I don’t agree. Those hardships made us what we are. You can be disadvantaged in many ways, and one way may be not having had to struggle.” Let us not be afraid but trust our heavenly Father in the dark the same as in the light. May we cling to Him and stand firm. The storm will pass by, and we will make it through.
