Blessed Is The Nation
With God As Its Foundation

July 2019
With great privilege comes great responsibility. We, as Americans, are so blessed to reside in such a great country. Psalm 33:12 says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.” God has loved and favored our nation down through the years, and has preserved us through some volatile, turbulent, stressful, and difficult times. Like any great thing, we can take it for granted, and I believe too many Americans take our freedoms, our prosperity, and our position in the world for granted. And most sadly of all, we have neglected our spiritual foundation.

God and His Word form the foundation that our country was built upon. From the days of our Founding Fathers down to the present, our country has changed over the years and not for the better. Prayer, the Bible, and our spiritual values have not only been neglected but rejected by so many. Psalm 127:1 warns us, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” Anyone who owns a home realizes it takes time, effort, and money to maintain it, otherwise it will deteriorate over time.

America, like a great house with a strong foundation, needs repair. It is still a beautiful house, but it sorely needs renovation, remodeling, and restoration. It won’t happen by itself. As Christians, we must be the driving force to repair the spiritual and moral values of God, faith in Jesus Christ, the truths and principles of the Word God, and prayer. Can it happen, yes! Will it happen? Only as we stand up to the forces of evil and sin and say enough is enough. The vocal minority has subjugated the silent majority. This is God’s country! This is our country! Let’s take it back!

French writer Alexis de Tocqueville, after visiting America in 1831, said, “I sought for the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields, and boundless forests–and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system, and in her institutions of higher learning–and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution–and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great!” Let us thank God for our country and for the many Christians and evangelical churches who still preach the gospel and teach the Word of God. Blessed is the nation with God as its foundation.
