Stand Still And See The Salvation Of The Lord
March 2019
It isn’t easy to stand still and be still when all around us is chaos, trouble, confusion, fear, and anxiety. Only the Lord can give us peace amid all circumstances. In the case of the Israelites at the Red Sea, the sea was in front of them, the mountains on each side of them, and Pharaoh and his pursuing army hot on their heels behind them. I’d have been scared to death too! With no way out, they were trapped without hope. Did God bring them out of Egypt just to let them all be killed? They couldn’t run. They couldn’t fight. Now what, Lord?

Their leader Moses didn’t panic but with calm assurance spoke the word of the Lord. It must not have made much sense to them at the time, but God’s plans don’t always make sense to our mortal minds. In Exodus 14:13-15 it says, “And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid! Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace. And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why do you cry to Me?’ Tell the children of Israel to go forward.’” Had the Lord ever failed them? Never! They just had trust Him in this situation as they had so many times before. God’s track record is always 100% trustworthy.

They are not to fight nor to run; they are to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. He will defeat their enemies and give them the victory. Still to this day, the crossing of the Red Sea and the victory over Pharaoh and all his army is one of the greatest miracles in the history of the world! For the rest of Israel’s history this watershed event is what encouraged them to face anything that came their way. When God does a miracle in our lives it strengthens our faith and infuses us with confidence in our Lord. But there will be new challenges ahead, new impossible circumstances that we must face. Our omnipotent God loves challenges that we call impossible. When He comes through, He is glorified, and we are incredibly blessed.

But we are human. We have fears, worries, doubts, and anxieties. Lord, I don’t have a job; I don’t have a spouse; I don’t have kids; I don’t have good health. The Lord loves us so much and wants to show us again and again how powerful He is when we surrender the full control to Him. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Dear saint, take fresh courage, the Lord is with you and is your sufficiency. You will see what He can do and will do for you. Let us all stand still and see the salvation of the Lord!
