Yesterday, Today And Forever
You can’t improve upon perfection! Perfection in anything in life is extremely hard to come by; perfection in everything is impossible outside of Jesus Christ. He alone embodies perfection in all His ways. Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” Our Savior is changeless. You can always count on Him. He never fails.
When we look back to His creation of the world — it was perfect. When we look back to His dealings with Israel — it was perfect. When we look back to His finished work on the cross — it was perfect. When we look back to His glorious resurrection and ascension — it was prefect. Let us draw fresh courage in reflecting upon the Scriptures and upon our past experiences of His great faithfulness. The Psalmist said, “The Lord has done great things for us, we are glad” (Psalm 126:3).
The Lord Jesus is the same in the present as He was in the past. He is with us; He provides for us, and He gives us His peace, joy and love all along life’s journey. Life can be extremely challenging, and we need the Lord every moment of every day. Our blessed Lord is a friend that sticks closer than a brother and will never leave us nor forsake us. When the present is at its boiling point and when we are at our breaking point, we can flee to our focal point in Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Lord Jesus is not only the Lord of the past and the Lord of the present but He is also the Lord of the future. What a comfort to leave the future in the hands of the only One who not only knows it but has power over it. We cannot write the future chapters of our lives despite all our intricate planning, preparation and provision. We could spare ourselves so much fear, frustration and fretting by leaving everything in the hands of God.
Without Christ the past is too painful, the present is too stressful and the future is too fearful. Times change; seasons change; things change and people change, but Christ never changes. He has been with us in the past, is with us in the present and will be with us in the future. Only the past can prepare us for the present. Only the past and the present can prepare us for the future, but all three can prepare us for eternity. As the hymn writer said, “Yesterday, today, forever, Jesus is the same. All may change but Jesus never, glory to His name.”
