The Lord Liveth
David said, “The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted” (Psalm 18:46). We sometimes sing the words of this Psalm in our Wednesday worship songs. It is upbeat and encouraging, and causes us to rejoice greatly in the Lord.
Easter is such a wonderful time of the year. How can we not be happy, joyful and thankful as we remember our Lord Jesus Christ lives? He died on the cross for our sins and rose for our justification. All other religious leaders lay in the grave, their bodies decomposed, but only Jesus conquered death and sits at the right hand of God.
Job said it so well, “For I know that my Redeemer lives. And He shall stand at last on the earth. After my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God” (Job 19:25,26). Job lived long ago during the days of the patriarchs; and by the Holy Spirit pointed to the day of Christ’s coming to earth and beyond to life with Him forever in glory.
The two disciples of Christ who had the privilege of speaking to our risen Savior on the road to Emmaus proclaimed, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon” (Luke 24:34). The resurrection of Christ turned their gloom into glory, their sorrow into joy, and their discouragement into great encouragement.
But how about us today, what do we say? The beautiful words of the hymn writer come to mind, “He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today. He walks with me and talks with me, along life’s narrow way. He lives! He lives, salvation to impart. You ask me how I know He lives. He lives within my heart.”
We can face today knowing that Jesus lives in our hearts, and we can face tomorrow because He lives on the throne. Someone once said, “When the trials seem so overwhelming, and the burdens so hard to bear; let us trust our living Savior, by His promise He will be there.” We can walk with Him and talk with Him through every step of life because He is alive and He is with us. Let us proclaim with David, “The Lord liveth!”
