Yesterday, Today and Forever — Jesus Is The Same

In an ever-changing world, it is most reassuring to know that though all may change, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ never changes. Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” When we think of someone changing, it is either to start doing something good or to stop doing something bad. Our God is perfect. He needs no change. He is the best.

The same God who spoke the world into existence, is the One who holds it all together today. The same Lord, who parted the Red Sea so that the Israelites could cross on dry land, is the One who creates miracles of many sorts in our lives everyday. The same King who died on the cross to save us, now lives on the throne to intercede for us in all our needs. He is a perfect picture of consistency, faithfulness and steadfastness. He is our Rock.

Think for a moment with me if God changed. Suppose He became frustrated and impatient with our continual failures, mistakes and sins. Suppose we could not approach Him at any time we desired, but we had to make an appointment. Suppose He took a break or a vacation. What would happen to the world? What would happen to us?

But alas, the sun keeps shining; the earth keeps singing; gravity keeps gravitating! Even my heart and yours keeps beating — all because God keeps them so. If He but let go for just an instant, the whole universe would crumble and be destroyed. Though we cannot predict the future, nor can we know if we will see another sunrise tomorrow — God will be in control for a million more tomorrows and even more!

Does it not give us tremendous hope, encouragement, and joy to realize that because He never changes, we need not worry, fear or lose hope? He loves us. He cares for us. He has all the power and all the resources, and yes, He never changes. He has all the answers to our questions, all the solutions to our problems and all the gifts and blessings to meet and exceed our needs. Truly, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
