What Faith Looks Like
Randy Akl
Hebrews 11:8-12
When God asks something of us, when God takes us through something difficult, we tend to think of faith as this pretty aesthetic of immediate compliance, unshakeable trust. We've fooled ourselves into believing faith through difficulties, faith through trials, faith through God's asks of us is exclusively this sanitized, sterile, blind, social media-friendly, inspirational meme-ready attitude that never waivers, never questions, never doubts. And, truthfully, that's never really the case. The reality of faith is starkly different than the aesthetic we've been conditioned to believe.
Faith isn't always pretty. Genuine faith can be filled with tears, questions, doubts, wrestling with God. That's what real faith looks like. Genuine faith weeps, fears, strives after, wrestles with doubts and questions, seeks, rests, falls, gets up, and in the end, perseveres. Abraham's life is a perfect example of this kind of faith that started out shaky and grew into a mighty faith with complete dependence on God. We can learn three keys from Abraham's example:
- Walk with God faithfully
- Believe God anyway
- Surrender to His will
