In writing his epistles, John is very clear of his objective. In our text today, the apostle declares how to increase our joy.

Joy is much richer and deeper in quality than happiness. Human happiness is the result of happenings that bring pleasure and delight. But joy is a gift from God that can cause the heart to overflow even in adverse and difficult circumstances.
